William Wingate scholarships

CCC-NO-07 (12)Join us in our Cathedral singing

The Cathedral Chamber Choir has been singing in Cathedrals, Abbeys and collegiate chapels since 1979. To help develop the next generation of singers who enjoy singing in large cathedrals, we offer scholarship bursaries to young people and others who might not otherwise be able to take part.

If you, or someone you know, could benefit from our support in singing cathedral services at a residential week or weekend we can help.

A skill for life

DSCF0012Over the years, we have been lucky enough to be joined by talented scholars, students and lovers of singing who have gone on to take up music as a profession and a life-enhancing hobby, either continuing to sing with us, or by joining other groups to develop their enthusiasm and choral skills.

Our Principal Conductor, Alex Berry writes:

“The Cathedral Chamber Choir is committed to nurturing the talent of young singers who are keen to learn more about the English choral tradition. The William Wingate scholarships offer the next generation of singers the opportunity to inhabit this tradition in one of our great cathedrals, within a supportive and encouraging environment.” Alexander Berry MA(Cantab) FRCO, Organist & Director of Music, Bradford Cathedral

William Wingate

Our scholarships are named after a long-standing and much-mourned choir member, a lifelong supporter of the English Cathedrals choral tradition. William left a sum in his will for the development of the choir. The Trustees wish to use it fully, to support young singers with travel and accommodation costs at a residential visit.

Singers will be fully incorporated into the work and activities of the choir making new friends and discovering and celebrating with us the glories of English Choral Music, reverently sung in our wonderful ‘Quires and places where they sing’.
